Weightloss is not a diet problem

How would your life change if you could get to your ideal weight? What if you could flick a switch in your brain so that you think yourself thin?

Weightloss is not a diet problem and I’m going to explain why.

Being overweight is a symptom and you need to examine the causes to make lasting change. A personal trainer, dietician or hypnotist can only deal with symptoms. When you work with me we focus on the causes to make LASTING CHANGE in your life.

This is exactly what I’ve done with lots of my clients. Because once your brain is in the right place you can take the actions that will hep you lose and keep off the extra weight you are carrying around with you all day every day. Sounds liberating doesn’t it?

I was expecting to be thrown in a gym and put through my paces. But there has been none of that and I’ve still achieved my original goal to lose two stone.

In the video below I talk about why weightloss is far less to do with calories than most people think. You have must have heard it said that ‘diets don’t work’ at least not in the long term. I can tell you from personal experience this is 100% true.

Get your head in the right place and you can eliminate yo-yo dieting, procrastination and not feeling the way YOU DESERVE to feel. This is not a gimmick or an online course, it is life coaching at its very best. And if your goal is to loose weight then that’s what I can help you do.

To successfully loose weight and keep it off you will need to change your life. That starts with your environment and then your you you feel and act.

I’m Gordon, the Happiness Guy and by hacking your brain I can help you can get a handle on all of this which can lead to lasting TRANSFORMATION.

If you are looking for someone who will help with nutrition, training programmes or ‘sorting out your head’, Gordon is the best. We have managed to shift over 2.5 stone, 6 inches from my waist and I’ve lost a couple of chins so far!

I am now almost three stone lighter, fitter than I have ever been in my adult life and conscious of how a fit body and mind can have a massive impact on the way you feel. My only regret is not looking to change my lifestyle life earlier.

Why weight loss isn’t a calorie problem

Today I want to talk to you about why weight loss isn’t a food problem, it isn’t a diet problem. And explain why you are looking in the wrong place and this will be true for the vast majority of people. So I’m going to get straight to it and I’m going to show you why weight loss isn’t actually a food problem, explain why if you are trying to from a diet perspective the problems you are going to face and then, of course how to overcome them.

Let’s have a quick look.

The first things I would say is everything is influenced by your environment. It’s things like work and home, it’s your journey to and from work, it is your friends, the things you put in you, the things that you see.  Your environment is influencing everything in fact it’s sleep and hydration and all of that. Anything at all that affects you is your environment. By affects you it will affect how you feel. And how you feel affects an awful lot of your thoughts.

Your thoughts affects your actions. Your actions bring about the outcome. If you get all of that right you can transform.

Let me give you a little bit more information on this. Your actions, down here, are things like your diet and your exercise. This is where most people try to influence their weight loss attempts. That is fundamental flawed and here is why.

If you don’t feel the way you want to feel then you won’t think the thoughts you need to have in order to stick to your diet or get to the gym. Hopefully that makes sense. Trying with your actions when your feelings don’t want you to, or our thoughts don’t want you to is just going to be like a really awful internal struggle between part of you that knows what you should be doing but then part of you that does’t want to do it. To me that is a life of contant internal struggle with yourself. And I don’t think there is many things worse than that.

As you go through life, if you keep doing the same things, it is going to destroy things like self esteem and self belief and destroy the belief that you can get to the end. So for me, when people are looking diet and percentage of carbs vs percentage of protein and all of that, then you are looking in the wrong place. You need to go upstream!

The same for exercise, you have to consider and actually start manipulating your environment so that you feel better, have better thoughts and better actions. Let me give you a couple of examples. If through  your environment you organise a great night’s sleep, when  you wake up having had a good night’s sleep you feel much better. There is a part of the brain that then sets the tone for the day so how you look at, how you perceive, how you see everything is influenced by how you feeling.

I think it was Henry Ford who said “whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t you’re probably right”. Obviously I am going to be agreeing with that! So if you feel like you can then you are going to do great. But if you feel like you can’t then you’re not going to be able to.  So if you are constantly struggling with your feelings going one way and your thoughts going another, you’re feeling one way and your thoughts going another. If you are just finding that you aren’t wanting to, but you need to, then that’s just a thought. It is in your head. It is not a feeling, it is not an emotion.

An emotion is what gets things moving. An emotion is what gets things moving so you need line up your thoughts and your feelings. So for me, most people, if they are overweight, and this might be a little controversial, and it might not be true for everybody but it is true for an awful lot of people:

They don’t have a food problem, they have a problem with  possible emotional eating or a problem with stress management of they might just eat too much of the wrong things because they are bored. A variety of problems that have nothing to do with calories in, these are all problems to do with emotions. There might be a problem with self talk. And all of those problems will never be solved by the next best diet or a good exercise regime.

You need to focus what is happening upstream with our environment in order to influence what happens downstream with your diet and exercise. If you don’t do this you will never get your outcome and you will never transform. So what I want you take away from this video is:

Look at the root causes, being overweight is rarely a food problem. There will be something else going on, you don’t feel the way you need to feel and so you don’t do the action of exercise. You don’t feel like going to the gym because you have had a terrible day. Or you don’t stick to your diet because you have been so strict during the week and deprived yourself and then you get to the weekend you just want to feel differently.

I think it was Ensiten that said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result”. If you are trying to fix your weight and you are only addressing your diet or your exercise regime but you find that you are constantly struggling and there is this internal conflict then please look at emotion eating. Look at stress management. Find other ways of dealing with boredom rather than just eating. Nail down your things then get some plans to solve them. Read some books, watch some videos ask for some help. But don’t allow these things that are holding you back today, hold you back tomorrow and in a month and in a year. Then it will just get worse and then you feel worse. It is no life and it isn’t necessary. I’ve studied nutrition and therapies and I’ve looked at all these things. I used to think it was diet. I used to think it was exercise.  But the root of the problem comes before all that. It is how you feel, it is the thoughts that you are having, it is more in that realm. If you have any comments I would love to help.
